BAPTISM @ GRACE POINTE

Baptism is such a joyous occasion at Grace Pointe, celebrated by young and old! Buried in a "watergrave" in the likeness of Christ's death, raised in the likeness of His resurrection, to walk in newness of life!

What is Baptism?

Thank you for your interest in baptism and what it means to our church. We'd like to share with you what we believe about baptism.

Baptism is an Ordinance of the Church. The other ordinance of the church is Communion.

Here are six reasons why baptism is important to GracePointe and should be important to you:
  1. Jesus Himself was baptized, see Matthew 3:16. We are commanded to follow in his steps and baptism is one of them. (1 Peter 2:21) [Note: Jesus was never baptized as a baby and the Bible makes no requiremants of beleivers to be baptized as babies.]
  2. The Lord approved of His disciples baptizing, see John 4:1-2.
  3. Christ Commanded that people be baptized in this age, see Matthew 29:19.
  4. The early church gave an important place to baptism, see Acts 2:28, 41; 8:12-13, 36, 38; 10:47-48; 16:15, 33; 18:8; 19:5. The early church never conceived of a believer remaining unbaptized.
  5. The New Testament uses the ordinance of baptism to picture or symbolize important spiritual truths, see Romans 6:1-10; Galatians 3:27 and 1 Peter 3:21.
  6. The writer of Hebrews terms baptism a foundational truth (Hebrews 6:1-2). It is no more optional or less significant than the doctrines of repentance, ressurrection, and judgement.
Who Should be Baptized?

People who are saved. Baptism follows a person's commitment to Christ (Matthew 3:2-6; Acts 2:37-38; 16:14-15, 34). Grace Pointe does not believe that a person must be baptized to be saved. Baptism is the first step of obedience after salvation. Grace Pointe does not sprinkle a person. Immersion is unquestionably the primary meaning of "baptizo" (Greek word for baptize.). Immersion best pictures the death, burial, (old life) and resurrection (new life).
